I wanted to write darkwave/post punk/new wave music for years now, but I knew that I wouldn't release anything if I couldn't find a singer to elevate the music.
Some time ago I made a track and I named it Sad on the Dancefloor because that's the vibe it was giving me. I finished it and I was considering who I know who can sing it.
Van Derand is a long time friend and collaborator, and I knew that he was into this stuff (he made a whole goth piano compositions album after all).
So I sent him the track, with the demo title I had and I asked him if it was inspiring to him to sing on it.
From what I understand, he really vibed with it because the next day he sent me the verses and a day later the whole song with this chorus. Needless to say that I love the whole result.
He decided to use the throwaway title I had as the theme of the song. Fun fact, the lyrics are inspired by Twin Peaks, and it works!
He produced, mixed and mastered it, and that's the result you can finally listen here.
This isn't a one off for me. I have a whole album in that style and I hope I can complete it someday, sooner than later.
